ASBESTOS
As Asbestos is a particle, the P3 section of the filter will filter these particles. NaCl and paraffin oil tests are done to ensure the filter’s effectiveness against very small particles.
NB: A P3 filter with a full face mask will provide the highest protection against particles (for air purifying). If higher protection is needed air supply, powered air, breathing apparatus or engineering controls will be required.
The OEL (occupational exposure limit) of asbestos is 0.1 asbestos fibres per millilitre of air measured in accordance to HSG248. The nominal protection factor of a full face mask and P3 filter canister is approximately 1000. If you measure the exposure in the workplace at 100 asbestos fibres per millilitre of air for example, the exposure with the mask and filter will be lowered a thousand times (100 fibers/1000 NPF = 0.1 exposure)
