Clearing the path for a new generation of products. Arktis “Elite” is our spearhead into cutting-edge fabric technology. Pushing the limits of performance, fit, & function.
The goal has been to research and test top-of-the-line fabrics & form factors to create products with elite performance levels without hindering the operator's manoeuvrability.
Our most advanced thermal garment, the B474 Vulcan is the first of this new range. It is designed to provide excellent thermal insulation in a lightweight and packable mid-layer form factor that remains effective even in wet and adverse conditions.
Between its inner and outer windproof layers, the jacket boasts 100gsm of Primaloft® Gold across the body and 60gsm across the arms, meaning excellent thermal properties without the unwanted bulk.
The pinnacle of synthetic fibre technology, Primaloft® Gold is the last word in quality insulation. Its ultra-fine, lightweight fibres trap body heat to ensure exceptional insulation, even in extreme cold, keeping you comfortable and thermally regulated across all seasons.
This level of insulation isn't compromised by wet weather as the hydrophobic fibres actively repel water, meaning they'll still perform to high standards, maintaining 98% effectiveness, even in wet weather conditions.
The fibre's incredible compression resistance means that Primaloft® Gold remains highly effective even when subjected to the extreme rigours of military use.
All this comes with an incredible performance-to-weight ratio that allows for producing exceptionally lightweight, packable solutions with high, military-grade performance.
All this makes Primaloft® Gold the obvious choice when creating the B474 Vulcan and is the unseen element that marks the jacket as worthy of the title ELITE.
The design and fit keep the operator in mind. The two large front pockets have dual opening zips, providing flexibility and internal slots provide convenient storage for mobile or comms units.
The two side pockets feature concealed adjustment points that allow for easy use without the risk of them interfering with weapon draw. The spacious hood can be fully adjusted across three points and features a wired brim to give maximum control over fit to ensure no peripheral vision loss when worn.
All this is contained in a form factor so lightweight that it can be packed into its own pocket.

We have a lot of fans that often visit and support us on a regular basis.
Shane Barry is one of them.
Shane visited our Wellington Innovation Hub, in Upper Hutt a few weeks ago and bought himself a pair of :

5.11 Multicam TDU Rip Stop > View Options here |
5.11 Stryke pants > View options here |
5.11 Apex pants > View options here |
We recognised his face and we asked if we could
have a quick chat about why he’s come back and bought another three sets of
5.11 pants.
Shane has just moved to the “middle of nowhere”
from Trentham and is an avid hunter.
He wouldn’t say what his designation was or much about his background but you
could tell by his long list of gear that he’s bought from us over the last few
months that we line up extremely nicely with his interests.
His experience with the pants so far is that they are extremely comfortable and very durable.
Shane said that he took the 5.11 Apex pants out for a
hunt on the weekend and he is extremely brutal on his gear.
The Apex held up very well and he liked how light they felt.
We asked him what he was using before and he said that he was a Dickies fan, but the big problem was that the Dickies pants would create hot spots at different parts and became very uncomfortable. The 5.11 pants were great and there were no hot spots at all and have become his new favourites.
“The 5.11 pants are not expensive for the great quality that you get.” said Shane.
Shane also bought the Arktis Ranger Pant.

“The price is up there, but the quality on these pants is great and you get what you pay for."
"However, I’m not so fond of that many pockets. In my opinion, if you have pockets then you’re going to fill them. I have a more minimalistic approach when gearing up and pockets will get snagged in the bush."
"I’m sure there’s a reason why there’s Velcro but it would be good to see a version with buttons. Buttons don’t make a sound and won’t scratch you.”
Shane spoke about our 5.11 ATAC boots for a duty boot and had a couple of good things to say about it.
5.11 ATAC 2.0 8” Side Zip Boot
“I’ve always used Magnum boots and the 5.11 boots looked very similar. They are better than the Magnum Spider 8.1 and more like the 8.0 just a bit softer. I’m enjoying them. The sizing was a bit different to what I was used to, and I had to size-up by a half size for them to fit perfectly.”
Shane also talked about some of the Surefire flashlights
that he had gotten from us and that he was a big SureFire fan.
It’s always great to speak to clients at the tip of spear and get feedback from the gear out in the field.
Thanks for sharing your story, Shane. We appreciate it. Until next time.
It's been a challenging year with ups, downs, and what feels like every other direction you can think of.
One thing that has remained solid is the unwavering support that we have had from you.
Thank you!
You are what drives us forward and have made us who we are today.
Have a fantastic festive break and a safe end to the year.
To all the front-line guardians that will be keeping us safe over this period, thank you. We appreciate all you do.
May 2022 be yours!
Our retail stores will close 24 December (2:30 pm) and Auckland will reopen on 10 January 2022 and Wellington on 11 January 2022.
Our online store will be going over this period and Greg and Pete will be manning the warehouse to get your orders out.
See you next year.

]]>Tactical Solutions is proud to announce its partnership with Arktis.
The Arktis brand was created in 1985 by a former British Royal Marine Commando, determined to improve the function and performance of the standard-issue combat uniform.
Arktis has developed a specialist reputation for designing and engineering some of the best quality, functional clothing & equipment out there.
Arktis’ iconic smocks, jackets, tactical vests and specialist gear have been tested to the extremes by the Military, Special Forces and Emergency Services in the toughest environments around the world.
"We believe it’s of the utmost importance that the men and women on the front line are well equipped to deal with any potential hazards they might face in everyday life. We’ve made this seemingly simple task, our mission."
Tactical Solutions have been looking for a partner that would be able to fill a gap for certain high-end specialist uniform requirements as well as be able to supply and design custom-made solutions.
All their garments are hand-made by people, not robots.
Arktis have a fantastic heritage and have been supplying some of the world's top-tier clients with their gear solutions and tick all the right boxes.
"We’ve been doing this for more than thirty years now. Our hardy gear is used by many Special Forces, and tough military units, who depend on our quality to get their job done.
"We’ve driven the jackets onto airstrips to meet waiting aeroplanes, and sent boxes away to strange places both in the icy north and in hot deserts. What we make also works pretty well at home on a bad day."
"The prestigious customers we serve form a special roll of honour, and we are more than grateful to supply them and to be a small part of their history." |
"Back in the 80s, we developed a unique fabric aimed to be reliable and long-serving, and we developed a dropliner system to support our ripstop fabric. Every now and then, garments made this way come back for reproofing and repairs, and we’ll get them back into the field.
"Some of these jackets have their own stories to tell – of conflicts long over; of feats of the Endurance which is part of our Quality and Endurance motto; of things seen only by those people who wore them in distant places; of, indeed, forgotten fields."
"The ethic of master craft is to build hands-on and examine the things you make. Few can say this in the times of the big boast and the fast buck. Our technology aims at being tough, long-lasting, discreet, intelligently dry, and as light as it can be."
Buy any Arktis product and whilst stocks last, get an Arktis shirt and patch added to your order.

Sandra, one of the owners of Tactical Solutions, is of Māori descent from the Ngāti Whakaue and Ngāti Rangiwewehi iwi.
We were having a very interesting discussion with Sandra on what the Māori New Year means and why it is important.
She explained that in the Māori culture, astronomy is a big part of life.
The position of the stars and planets in relation to the moon and sun mean different things.
They would coincide with different seasonal events that were happening and the celestial beings would form part of stories that are woven into the history of the people.
One example would be the Māori fishing calendar.
* source: https://teara.govt.nz/en/document/5387/fishing-by-the-moon
Here's how it works.
1. Whiro Is the start of the new moon.
Each symbol represented a particular aspect of the night of the moon.
Straight lines on the graphic above indicated good nights for line fishing and black dots for fishing by torchlight.
A night such as Whiro, with a dot and a line, was good for both.
Personally, the calendar has been fairly accurate, to the point that we'll always have a look at it before planning our fishing trips.
Here's a good one to use: https://www.fishing.net.nz/fishing-advice/maori-fishing-calendar/
Tight lines!
The Māori New Year started this morning, 2 July 2021.
It's marked by the rising of the "Matariki" star constellation known as Pleiades or the Seven Sisters.
The constellation usually disappears from view during the cold months and reappears mid-winter just before dawn, signaling the beginning of the New Year.
Bright, clear stars promise a warm and successful planting season. Hazy stars, however, warned of cold weather and poor crops.
It was a crystal clear sky this morning, it's going to be a great year!
New Year celebrations provide the opportunity for whānau (extended family) to come together to acknowledge:
Traditionally these celebrations were only acknowledged and celebrated by the iwi, but it has become an important part of New Zealand history.
If you are interested, there are some fantastic Matariki festivals that happen every year. * Google Matariki festival.
July marks the beginning of the new 2021/22 financial year for us.
After a challenging year, we are gearing up for a great year.
We want to give back to you.
Wouldn’t it be great to have a get-together with our Tactical whānau for kōrero and kai?
As this is not possible.
here is what we are going to do:
For the next week 2 July to 9 July 2021:
We will give the full $35 (the cost of the TKM shirt) to the Te Kiwi Māia trust.
Read more about what Te Kiwi Māia do here: https://www.tekiwimaia.co.nz/
The special edition 5.11 cap. (above)
If you head to our Auckland or Wellington stores, we have a couple of the 2019 limited edition caps (above) available.
